Overview

A cruise that goes on and off the beaten track, with an itinerary that combines famous tourist spots with places you’ve probably never heard of. It’s a great introduction to Greek island-hopping.

Calling at: Athens – Poros – Poliegos – Folegandros – Santorini – Antiparos – Paros – Delos – Mykonos – Syros – Kythnos – Cape Sounion – Athens

Your vessel: The Motor Sailor Galileo – a beautiful blue three-master that sails under canvas whenever conditions allowed. With only 26 cabins she’s small enough to get you up close and personal with even the smallest waterfront tavernas. With no more than 52 guests, who all sit down to eat together, it’s a great way to make new friends. There is no swimming pool – when it’s time to cool off the Captain heaves-to in a secluded bay and we swim in the Aegean.

Highlights:

  • Authentic Greek islands you’ve probably never heard of
  • The famous volcanic island of Santorini
  • Learning to dance the Greek way
  • Delos – birthplace of Apollo
  • The unchanged authenticity of Syros
  • Mykonos – party central!
  • The Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion

Itinerary

Day 1: Athens – Poros – Poliegos

Embark Marina Zeas in Athens for welcome drinks whilst we cruise to tiny Poros where we stop to explore for an hour or three. Dinner back on board and overnight sailing to Poliegos.

Day 2: Poliegos – Folegandros

This morning Poliegos, this afternoon Folegandros – we’re starting with authentic undiscovered Greece! Time at leisure to explore and the chance to dine in a traditional taverna this evening.

Day 3: Folegandros – Santorini

Santorini – a remarkable island set around a volcanic caldera. The visit to the ruins of Akrotiri (the Greek Pompeii) is fascinating. Famous sunset views from Oia – bring your camera.

Day 4: Santorini – Antiparos – Paros

A morning swim off Antiparos then on to Paros. Time to explore and have a cocktail or two to loosen you up for our Greek Dancing fest – tonight you become your own Greek legend!

Day 5: Paros – Delos – Mykonos

We can’t possibly not stop at Delos – birthplace of Apollo and important religious centre. So it’s a morning of culture before we hit ‘party central’ – Mykonos, much loved by the chic and cheerful.

Day 6: Mykonos – Syros

After the hubbub of Mykonos, Syros is a completely different kettle of octopus, much lauded by travel writers as ‘a real Greek island’ and ‘a place of living history’. It’s lovely.

Day 7: Syros -Kythnos – Athens

We’ve left the most authentic island until last –Kythnos and the scenic main town of Hora. Tonight it’s back to Athens for our farewell dinner, via the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion.

Day 8: Athens

Breakfast then transfer to airport or Athens hotel if you’re taking one of our land excursions.
