DAY TOUR OF RHODES TOWN AND LINDOS

• We start with a scenic drive by coach through the modern areas of Rhodes. As you pass by the Mandraki Esplanade, you will see the government buildings, Church of Annunciation built 1925, a replica of the Old Church of the Knights of St John and the deer statues at the entrance of Mandraki port. We then continue up to Monte Smith for panoramic views and photo opportunities across Rhodes, the Aegean Sea and the Acropolis of Rhodes with its 2nd Century BCE Ancient stadium
• We continue on to Rhodes Medieval City where, at the Gate d’Amboise, we disembark and proceed to the Grand Masters Palace for a guided walking tour. The Palace was built in the 14th century CE, destroyed in 1856 and rebuilt in 1939 by the Italians to accommodate the King of Italy, Emmanuel II, and Mussolini.
• We then walk down the Street of the Knights to see the many inns once occupied by the crusaders. At the end of the street is the Archaeological Museum, formerly the Knights Hospital, built in 1440 CE and the most well-preserved building in the Old City.
• After the City tour, we set off for Lindos, one of the island’s three ancient cities, renowned for its famous Acropolis. At a height of 535 feet, the ruins offer breathtaking views and photo opportunities of the entire village, including its medieval castle, superb sandy beach and charming white-washed, sugar cubed houses.
• Ancient Lindos was the most important town on the Island and has been inhabited for 5000 years
• After a guided tour of the Acropolis, we will walk down to the village of Lindos for a visit to the Byzantine Church of the Ascension
• During our visit, we will take a walking tour through the labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets, past the colourful courtyards and mosaics for which Lindos is famous
• The Apostle Paul also stopped at Lindos after he had left Jerusalem to preach in Europe and today there is a small chapel dedicated to his name at St. Paul’s Bay, a small bay next to Lindos bay
