ATHENS MARATHON PACKAGE – RUN IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF PHEIDIPPIDES
The legend of the marathon as a race dates back to Pheidippides (pron. Fee-dip-ede-ez) who ran from Marathon to Athens to announce the famous Greek victory over the Persians. If you want to run the classic marathon route and truly experience the magic and antiquity of Greece, this is the holiday for you. Staying at the Aegean resort community of Glyfada, daily runs by the sea are combined with sightseeing and guided tours from experienced runners. It’s a 6-day package that includes a choice of 3* or 4* hotel accommodation.
The price given is for 3* or 4* hotels (depending on choice of hotel).
The per person package price includes hotel accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis, based on two people sharing a twin room. In the case of single travellers, the single supplement option must be taken at additional cost.
Hotel accommodation taxes (4* hotels – 3 Euro per room/per night, 3* hotels – 1.5 Euro per room/per night) are not included and need to be paid directly to the hotel.
The above time schedule can be flexible according to the customers’ needs. If you need some of the offered tours or services, but not the whole package, please inform us accordingly.
Day 1 (Thursday)
Pick up from Athens International Airport and transfer to Glyfada hotel.
Day 2 (Friday) – Historical Sites of Marathon and the Classic Route
- Museum of Marathon
- Cemetery and tombs of the Middle Bronze Age
- Starting point of the Classic Route
- Minibus tour of the Classic Route accompanied by a professional running guide to share running strategies
We visit the archeological site of ancient Marathon. Our official guide will explain the historic events surrounding the Battle of Marathon and, in the Marathon Museum, you can see exhibits from 4000 BCE and the cemetery of the so-called ‘Tomb of the Squares’ dating back to the 5th century BC.
Following our visit, our expert experienced marathon running coach, who has completed the race on many occasions, will show you the starting point of the Classic Route and the stadium of Marathon where the runners warm up before the start. Our return journey back to Athens follows the route of the race and our running coach will analyze and explain the race. The Classic Route is one of the most difficult marathons in the world, with many peculiarities, and requires good planning and preparation to complete it. Our coach will advise on strategies.

Day 3 (Saturday) Historic Athens Discovery Run
- A special run that visits the cultural landmarks and attractions of Athens.

Our running tour, once again accompanied by our experienced coach, gives you the opportunity to see Athens from a different point of view as you run through its history, guided along the paths of our city in a unique and special way. During the run you will have the opportunity to explore historic downtown Athens, admire the sights and sites, stay fit and have your last run before the marathon race.

Please make sure that you wear appropriate running clothes, shoes and a hat for your run.
Day 4 (Sunday)
Pick up from your hotel to be transferred to Athens Marathon starting point for the race.
Transportation from the finish line back to your hotel.
Day 5 (Monday)
One Day Cruise from Athens to visit Hydra, Poros and Aegina – three magnificent islands of the historic Saronic Gulf.
Day 6 (Tuesday)
